Jammu and Kashmir secured the second position on Monday by winning six gold, two silver and two bronze medals in the national Independence Day (ID) Cup of Jeet Kune Do martial arts held in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, eight players from J&K, who have secured Gold and Silver medals in the Independence Day cup held last week, have secured their places in the upcoming South Asian Jeet Kune Do championship to be held in Sri Lanka.
However, appealing for support from the government, the selected players said that the administration should provide them sponsorships so that get a chance to participate in the South Asian championship and win laud from the state and for the nation.
The Independence Day Cup of Jeet Kune Do, in which 12 states participated, was held at Tyagraj Indoor Stadium in New Delhi from August 17 to August 18.
The players, who have won gold medals in the national event include Mohammad Shayaan Dar, Iqbal Nazir, Mohammad Sabir Najar, Rayan Firdous, Tajamul Hussain, Yawar Ali Khajawa.
Nisar Ali Khan and Mohammad Abeel have won silver medals while Zubair Bashir and Amaan have bagged bronze medals in the ID cup.
“The Independence day cup of Jeet Kune Do was held at Tyagraj Indoor Stadium in New Delhi from August 17 to August 18. Our players performed extraordinarily in the national event and bagged 10 medals, including six gold, two silver, and two bronze medals,” Inayat, the coach who accompanied the team to Delhi, told UNI.
Expressing happiness over the performance of the players from J&K in the national event, Jeet Kune Do Martial Arts Federation, General Secretary, Sifu Lion Vikas Gihara, said the players from the state have a good chance of winning medals in the upcoming South Asian Championship, which will be held in Sri Lanka.
“I have seen players from J&K perform in the national event and I’m sure selected martial artists will bag medals in the South Asian event,” he said.
